Double chin correction
If
double chin is significantly visible or skin in the area is saggy and
lost its elasticity, reduction of double chin is advisable. Double chin
presence is caused by excess of fat tissue, excess of skin or both
excess of fat tissue and skin.
During direct assessment a plastic surgeon decides whether a person has
excess of skin or fat tissue and consequently chooses a method of
correction. In case of fat tissue the procedure is performed with use
of liposuction. The procedure is performed in general anaesthesia. In
case of some small amounts of fat tissue and body area it can be
performed under local anaesthesia but it happens very rarely.
Liposuction involves small incisions, infusion of a special liquid and
then inserting so called cannula to loosen excess fat tissue and
finally sucts out the fat.
After the surgery a patient should stay for at least 1 night in the
clinic under medical care. For the first few days majority of patients
are significantly swollen and have bruises, feel stiff and sore. The
surgery itself is painless but just after the procedure for the first
few days patients feel some pain and discomfort which can be controlled
by medications. Elastic garment / tourniquet should be worn during
first 6 weeks non stop. In a clinic a patient should get instructions
how to treat the body after liposuction of chin. As a result of a
surgery patient receives a better shaped chin.
In
case of skin excess the procedure is performed with the use of
surgical cut (excision). This method of chin correction can be
performed under local anaesthesia. It means that soon after the surgery
a patient can leave the clinic (of course if a patient feels like
she should stay longer under medical care, she should definitely
stay in the clinic as long as it is necessary). After the surgery
patient is left with a bandage and a tourniquet to wear for the first
few weeks. There can be soluble or dissoluble stitches (removal after 7
days). About a week after removal of stitches it is a good idea to
start treating the incision with ointments that help the scar to
flatten out and lighten in color. The incision is almost invisible as
it is hidden below the chin.
Each surgery carries risks. In case of chin correction there is a risk
of infection, fat or blood clots, bleeding, etc. All risks connected
with undergoing the surgery should be discussed with plastic surgeon
during direct assessment.
Chin correction gives visible, long-lasting results, improves our look
and enhance self-image.
