Eyelids surgery
The
best candidates for lower / upper eyelids surgery (also called
blepharoplasty) are women whose skin in the area of eyes
become
thinner, lost elasticity, is significantly saggy, has visible wrinkles,
also has protruding bags.
In majority of cases upper and lower eyelid surgery is performed in
local anaesthesia. In case of upper eyelid a surgeon cuts a skin in
natural skin fold. Then gets rid of unwanted fat tissue, skin and
muscle and finally stitch the skin. On the incision the surgeon puts
some plasters to protects the wound.
In case of lower eyelid surgery a surgeon performs the
incision in the line just below the lower lashes. The excess of fat
tissue, skin and muscle is cut away. The edges of the wound are
stitched together and plasters are put on to the wound to protect
it.
Both lower and upper eyelids can be lifted together during the same
procedure.
The surgery is not painful. After the procedure a significant swelling and bruises occurs in the area of eyes, which causes discomfort. If the surgery was performed under local anaesthesia a patient can leave the clinic even on the same day being accompanied by relative or friend. In case of general anaesthesia a patient should stay in the clinic for 1 night.
For
about 2-3 hours after the surgery ice compresses are
recommended. Stitches should be removed after 7-10 days.
Swelling and bruises last for about 1-2 weeks. About a week after
removal of stitches it is good to start treating the incision with
ointments that help the scar to flatten out and lighten in color. The
recovery is quickly and majority of patients see the results
immediately. After about 3-4 weeks final results of the surgery are
visible.
In all kinds of eye treatments that help to restore youthfulness to the
eyes such as creams, fillers (Botox, Restylane) or eye lift operations
the last one are the most effective and permanent one.
