A few things you should know about Poland.
Before travelling abroad it is always a good idea to collect some information on a place you are going to. If you travel to Poland you don’t have to waste your precious time on searching internet as I have already prepared for you some most important facts about my country.
Poland is a parliamentary democracy with population over 38 million people and country area of 312,685 km2 (120,727sqm). Poland is the 9th biggest country in Europe, and 63rd in the world.
In may 2004 Poland joined EU. It Is bordered by Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east; and the Baltic Sea, Lithuania and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave, to the north.
The main cities are Warsaw (capital), Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań, Szczecin (where my cosmetic surgery clinic is located), Gdańsk and Łódź.
We still use Polish Zloty as a currency but plan to convert to euro around 2011 ( hope). One Polish Zloty equals to more or less 0,26 euro (July 2007).
Our climate is temperate. Average temperatures in January range from 0 to -7. Although at night during winter the temperature may fall to -20. Average temperatures in July about 19.
There is a one hour plus time difference while travelling from the UK or Ireland (GMT+1).
Many famous people were born in Poland, including Pope John Paul II, Nicolaus Copernicus, Frederic Chopin, Marie Skłodowska-Curie.
